প্রেসক্লাবে এসেছেন বিএনপির ভারপ্রাপ্ত মহাসচিব মির্জা ফখরুল ইসলাম আলমগীর। প্রেসক্লাবে তিনি নয়াপল্টনে দলীয় কার্যালয়ে এবং খালেদা জিয়ার গুলশানের কার্যালয়ে তালা মারার প্রতিবাদে দেশবাসীকে সোচ্চার হওয়ার আহ্বান জানান।
ঢাকায় সভা-সমাবেশে পুলিশের নিষেধাজ্ঞার মধ্যে প্রেসক্লাব মিলনায়তনে এই অনুষ্ঠানের আয়োজন করা করে সম্মিলিত পেশাজীবী পরিষদ। সেখানে সমাবেশে বক্তব্য দিতে আসেন মির্জা ফখরুল।
৫ জানুয়ারি ঘিরে রাজনৈতিক উত্তাপ ও ধরপাকড়ের মধ্যে কয়েক দিন পর প্রকাশ্যে এসে ফখরুল জাতীয় কবি কাজী নজরুল ইসলামের কবিতা উদ্ধৃত করে বলেন, ‘লাথি মার ভাঙরে তালা, যত সব বন্দিশালায় আগুন জ্বালা।’
